Vehicle Description 1940 Packard 120 Club CoupeThis Packard in a Barn has been owned by the seller since 1969 and off the road since 1973.
Except for the engine (as described below) the car is nearly 100% complete and original with minimal surface rust.
Mileage is believed correct as pedals and front seat upholstery show minimal wear.
Not running as installed engine is partially disassembled.
A prior owner removed the original C-series 1940 120 282 c.
i.
engine and replaced it with a post-war G-series 288 c.
i.
small 8 Packard engine from a 1948 Club Sedan.
However, with the car comes a fully-rebuilt (never run) prewar (20th Series) Packard 120 282 c.
i.
engine (see photos).
This engine was purchased in the early 1970s by the seller with the intention if swapping it into the coupe, and has been in heated dry storage ever since.
The car retains its original paint (never repainted), although there is surface rust from many years in various barns.
Clean NJ title in the seller's name.
Please review photos; happy to answer any and all questions.
I received a question about body rust-out - specifically the floors, where there is none.
There is some surface rust but the floors are all fully intact, the original sound-deadening composition boards in place, and part of the 'tar paper' undermat in the front.
The OEM rear rubber floor mat is intact and in place as installed at the factory.
All sheet metal shields (toe board, transmission universal cover) are there also.
I have added photos to the Interiorphotos below.
The only sheet metal perforation on the entire body is on the lower edge of the passenger door and on the dog leg behind it, the rocker panels and sills are completely intact as are the aluminum sill plates.
The lower edges of the fenders have zero rust-out also.
(Photos added to the Exteriorgroup.
) I was also asked about the VIN/patent plate.
It has lost its black paint and is illegible, except for the stamped body and serial numbers.
a photo was added tp theOthergroup.
A question was asked aboutMissing Parts.
To the best of my knowledge the following parts (only) are missing from the car:
Top trim molding from both headlamp bucketsBoth running board edge trim moldingsOEM front floor matGas filler rubber grommet for left rear fenderOriginal lug wrenchThe dashboard clock and a Packard crest locking gas cap have gone missing since I've had the car.
They may be elsewhere in my garage and will be included with the car if found, but they are currently listed as missing.
Extra Parts (some are in the photos):
Pair of original side grilles in very good condition with only very minor pitting.
Several extra tail lights and lenses.
Complete electric wiper motor and transmission, 2 rebuilt front shocks, miscellaneous front suspension parts, several hubcaps.
