Start up & DriveEngine RunDrive ByHISTORYMy parents purchased this 1963 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia brand new from Wolff Motors of San Diego California when I was 5 years old.
It was my father's commuter car from new until 1978.
From 1978 until 1991 it was used for Sunday drives.
From 1991 to 2015 the car sat in indoor storage in San Diego California.
In 2016 the car was restored to concours condition except for some original condition interior parts that were considered important to leave as they are including the dashboard, guages, steering wheel, radio, and shift knob.
The original engine and transaxle were rebuilt.
The engine was balanced.
The car was repainted to match the dashboard which still has the original paint.
Radial tires were installed for improved handling and ride to replace the original belted tires.
The car handles well and steers easily.
The engine pulls good and strong in all gears and is a joy to drive.
The car was garaged in Seattle Washington from 2016 until 2022 when it was transported to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and remains garaged and driven very sparingly in a collector car manner.
Sale includes original window sticker, 1963 sale contract & receipt, service and fuel log, receipt from a 1983 engine rebuild, and all receipts from the 2016 restoration.
In 1976 my father and I installed a big bore kit that brought the displacement to just under 1400 cc.
The 2016 restoration engine rebuild retains these dimensions.
Engine with bottom end was rebuilt in 1983 at 107,040 miles.
