One of the most unusual motorcycles you will ever find here, is the mid 1990s Aprilia Mot? 6.
5, which was designed by Phillipe Starck, one of the best-known designers of the last century.
This still unused, almost thirty-year-old modern work of art appears to have emerged from a time capsule, as it has been stored under controlled conditions since its original acquisition.
This means that after it left the factory test track back then, it was never ridden anymore, where from that day on it also never saw a tool again (.
.
aside from the one I used to look under the seat, see photos).
Immediately after it was purchased, the original caretaker drained the fuel from the tank and carburetor and treated the inside of the cylinder with preservative oil.
In the years that followed, the engine/gearbox was regulary rotated (manually), just to keep things moving.
A little history of this model;----The decision of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia https:

wikipedia.
org/wiki/Aprilia , led at the time by the passionate Ivano Beggio, was to look for a designer completely outside the world of motorcycle designers.
He turned to Philippe Starck, who was known for designing exclusive and bizarre objects for everyday use.
The anecdotal story is Starck was given a blank sheet of paper and told that if he could draw it, Aprilia could build it.
Aprilia wanted a bike which would appeal to a previously unexplored market segment:
young, cashed-up, style-driven, urban riders.
The engine already existed:
it was the versatile Rotax 650 five-valve single.
It made about 40hp, was good for the magic 160km/h - 100 mph and, with electric start, was very low maintenance.
Therefore, it cannot be surprising that Starck created a motorcycle that was both loved and criticized at the same time.
Like stated by their public relations executive Massimo Fiorentino:
We are taking a big risk with this machine.
You either like it or you don't.
So we just hope that public will accept the Mot? 6.
5.
But what has proven to be truly amazing, is that the Aprilia Mot? 6.
5 was definitely one of the best examples of motorcycle design from the 1990s.
It was certainly one of the most important designs in a niche market and represented the motorcycle of the 'yuppies' of that era.
Unlike most other motorcycle designers of the period, Starck wasn't restricted by the baggage of history.
His thinking was fresh and new, resulting in a work of art as much as a motorcycle.
Gray was the dominant colour and the bike stood out through its complete absence of chrome or polished alloy.
The entire design is rich in refined details, with the Rotax engine elegantly inserted into the curved frame and between the components of the body.
The 'egg shape' tank designed by Starck is the defining feature of the model.
The Mot? 6.
5 was presented at the Italian ' Bologna Motor Show' in December 1994 and production started in early 1995 at the Aprilia factory in Scorze, near Venice, Italy.
Deliveries (sales from the factory) started in June 1995.
In 1995 just over 3,500 bikes of this model were produced in Scorze and marked with the S frame code (=10th digit in the VIN);- frame numbers up to 1993 (so 1993 examples) solely for the Italian market.
- frame numbers from 50,000 to 51563, which 1563 machines were specially produced for the foreign/export market.
Production resumed in 1996, this time at the Aprilia factory in Noale, Italy, using the N frame code, however, as sales already started to decline, the Mot? 6.
5 was soon after removed from the Aprilia price list.
The real reason for this was never shared with the public, but maybe the bike was too progressive, with its rounded lines.
Another reason could be that it had no clear target group (as it was neither an enduro bike nor a racing bike).
The buyers were particularly attracted by the name of Philippe Starck and the very special aesthetics.
As a result, it soon became something of a 'cult' object, among designers and passionate collectors alike.
Its adaptability and simple, powerful engine make it easy to use on all types of journeys, from city traffic to long-distance mixed circuits.
Production lasted only 2 years and ended in 1997 due to disappointing sales/ commercial failure.
This all meant that the original target of Aprilia's CEO Ivano Beggio, to produce 7000 examples of the Mot? 6.
5s, was never met.
But despite this, today the Mot? 6.
5s has become a real collectors item, elevated to art through its exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, Birmingham, Alabama, USA, and with many admirers around the world.
----All in all, this rare for the US market 'Mot? 6.
5' as offered is in a beautiful state of preservation and shows absolutely no signs of use or age after almost three decades.
It still has the original tires on (which are visually both in the best possible condition!) and the battery is still the original one that was installed during production.
The original odometer reading is 00008 km (00005 mile).
When the buyer is going to decide to use it, we recommend that the bike be subjected to a complete oil change, a new battery and a check-up.
Moreover, this machine would also do great as a decoration-piece for instance in a museum, motorcycle-collection, as garage-art, in an office, hallway, man cave, shop-window, study room or in your den.
If you want to receive more photos, or any more information about this motorcycle, shipping, or process of importation into the US ( we also can get this handled) please let me know.
This motorcycle is because of age and displacement exempt from US import duty and federal US EPA regulations.
Of course we provide the buyer with a sales invoice from our company and the original old Belgian title.
Furthermore we will provide an official European Certificate of Origin (title) , which document will be issued in your name, complete with your details and vehicle related information such as make, model, VIN, engine number, displacement, year of manufacture, weight etc.
With this, getting it road-registered at your end will be a piece of cake.
I will of course answer all your questions in a timely manner and if you want to speak to me in person, I'm happy to pay you a phone-call.
